What is zkStable?

zkStable is a privacy stablecoin protocol on Ethereum, issuing $pUSD—a USD-pegged token fully backed by shielded Zcash (ZEC) collateral—leveraging zk-SNARKs to enable trustless, confidential proof-of-reserves across chains without custodians or asset wrapping.

Users deposit ZEC into Zcash's shielded pools to generate verifiable zk-proofs attesting to locked amounts without exposing identities or UTXOs, submitting them to Ethereum smart contracts—including the pUSD ERC-20 minter, collateral verifier, and vault—for overcollateralized minting (e.g., 150-200% ratios via oracle-fed ZEC/USD prices) or symmetric redemption via burn-and-proof mechanisms that ensure peg stability through arbitrage and stability fees, all while integrating seamlessly into DeFi for lending, trading, and payments.
