Shiba Inu (SHIB) was launched in August 2020 by an anonymous creator known as "Ryoshi." Initially created as an experiment in decentralized community building, the project was inspired by the popularity of Dogecoin but aimed to take the concept further by emphasizing community involvement and decentralization. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, SHIB started with a massive total supply of one quadrillion tokens, which contributed to its low per-token price and meme-like appeal.SHIB's rise to fame was fueled by its growing community and its marketing as the "Dogecoin killer," which attracted attention from investors and social media influencers. The project took a significant turn in May 2021 when Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, was given 50% of the SHIB supply. Buterin decided to burn a large portion of these tokens and donated the remainder to a COVID-19 relief fund in India, actions that dramatically reduced the circulating supply and sparked a significant price rally.As the project evolved, it expanded into a broader ecosystem, introducing additional tokens like LEASH and BONE, and launching the ShibaSwap decentralized exchange, which allowed users to trade, stake, and earn rewards within the Shiba Inu ecosystem. Despite its origins as a meme coin, SHIB has grown into a more serious project with real-world applications and a dedicated following, establishing itself as a notable player in the cryptocurrency space.
