<p>Edgeware operates as a smart contract compatible blockchain. It is built on Substrate and uses a Nominated Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. It features a community-managed treasury, a decentralized proposal system, as well a comprehensive DAO network. Blockchain projects can develop applications directly on Edgeware with Rust and WebAssembly, or deploy their already created Solidity/EVM smart contracts with little to no changes.&nbsp;</p><p>It also hopes to be able to provide tools to create a more efficient government solution for blockchain platforms by integrating the decision-making process into the runtime of the blockchain. For example, upgrades and improvements can be voted on, delegated and funded with the use of DAOs, economic mechanism, and other crypto-based voting processes.</p><p>EDG is the platform’s native cryptocurrency. It has a Total Initial Supply of 5,000,000,000.</p><h3>What are Edgeware's key features and how does it work?</h3><p>The Edgeware infrastructure is designed to give power and decision making to many small groups, rather than one centralized coordination system. Edgeware allows developers to join already established community groups, launch new projects, or develop ideas. Each group can request funding from the treasury, access a variety of management tools, as well as engage with the ecosystem as a whole to improve repudiation scores.&nbsp;</p><h3>What can EDG be used for?</h3><p>As mentioned, the platform is secured via a Nominated Proof-of-Stake mechanism for which staking EDG is essential. There is a limited number of known validators, as decided upon by the governance. The number of active validators is variable and changes depending on the number of validators wanting to be included and their stake. Rewards for validators remain the same regardless of higher staking amounts, this is so that centralized stakes are avoided.</p><p>EDG has several other functions.
