Elite VCs and tech execs donate nearly $9M to Donald Trump

A bunch of top venture capitalists, business moguls, and tech leaders, including Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, have donated $8.75 million to a new super PAC supporting Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. This was revealed in America PAC’s recent filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Other big names on the donor list include Douglas Leone, ex-managing director of Sequoia Capital, Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, and Troy Link, CEO of Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. The support for Trump got stronger after he was injured in an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Shortly after, billionaire Elon Musk publicly backed Trump’s re-election campaign on social media, stating, “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”

Elon Musk has reportedly pledged to donate to America PAC, although his name hasn’t appeared in any of the July filings yet. The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk plans to donate $45 million each month to the PAC. However, Musk shot down this claim by responding to the Wall Street Journal’s post on X with a meme saying “FAKE GNUS.”

Yesterday, Trump announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. He said he had a lengthy deliberation and came to the conclusion that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Vance.

JD Vance is a strong advocate for cryptocurrencies, aligning well with Trump’s new focus on crypto. Coinbase’s Stand With Crypto initiative praises Vance for his positive comments about crypto on social media and his pro-crypto voting record.

In his 2022 financial disclosure for the US Senate, Vance reported owning between $100,001 and $250,000 in Bitcoin through Coinbase. Despite the assassination attempt, Trump isn’t backing down from his commitments.

He confirmed he will attend the Bitcoin 2024 conference later this month in Nashville, Tennessee. Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey confirmed this, saying that Trump still plans to speak at the conference on July 25-27. Bailey stated that:

“We know you have questions about security and what to expect at this historic event. We are actively engaged with our security teams and are fully cooperating with all the relevant parties to ensure a safe event. Please be patient with us as we get this information out.”

According to insiders, Bailey pitched several crypto-related ideas to the Trump campaign, including a $15 million fundraiser.
