In this manner, sharding enables fast and near-instant transactions, whilst also preventing network congestion. The platform benefits from increasing the number of shards on it, as a transaction can be managed by more units at once, and therefore more rapidly. It differs from other sharding methods, as on Harmony, it depends on its own version of the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, which itself is based on the procedure known as distributed randomness generation. This is the Fast Byzantine Fault Tolerance (FBFT) mechanism. FBFT works by processing transactions in parallel. This combination enables security, scalability, and simple and easy verification.</p><p>ONE is the native crypto of the Harmony network. ONE can be used to pay for various services and operations on the network, including paying for storage.
