VAI is a stablecoin from the Venus Protocol. The Venus Protocol functions as an algorithmic money market platform. It is designed to offer a decentralized lending and credit system to the Binance Smart Chain by creating universal money markets. The protocol is designed based on the Compound and MarkerDAO projects and hopes to bridge the gap between traditional lenders and digital assets.

VIA, like all assets on Venus Protocol, is BEP-20 standard. It is an asset-backed stablecoin, backed by a basket of collateral and safety mechanisms. VAI can be minted by using the platform’s lending and borrowing services. It is originally designed to maintain a 1:1 peg to the value of the U.S. dollar.

What are Vai’s key features and how does it work?

The Venus protocol offers users lending, borrowing, and earning functionalities. Specifically, users will be able to supply collateral to the platform, borrow against it, and mint stablecoins. 

Some of the protocol’s key features include:

• Borrowing cryptocurrencies and stablecoins without requiring any credit check;
• High APY for providing liquidity;
• Utility for minting stablecoins in exchange for depositing collateral;

In order to use the platform, users can deposit any of the supported cryptocurrencies or digital assets onto the platform. In return for the collateral, users can earn an APY or mint synthetic stablecoins. Interest earned is variable-based and will depend on the yield curve utilization of that specific market. In return for providing collateral, users receive vTokens. vTokens can be used to mint the VAI synthetic stablecoin. VAI is the platform’s default stablecoin.

In order to borrow from the platform, users must provide an over-collateralized deposit. The specific amount needed to provide, and collateral ratios are determined by the protocol which, in turn, is decided upon via the platform governance mechanism.
