What is Seal?
Seal is a decentralized secrets management (DSM) service that secures sensitive data in Web3 applications. It operates on the Sui blockchain and leverages cryptographic primitives like Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) and threshold encryption to provide scalable, decentralized security solutions.
Key Features
Encryption and Decryption: Seal enables client-side encryption (CSE), ensuring sensitive data is encrypted and decrypted locally by users or applications. It supports threshold encryption, where data can be decrypted only if a specified number of key servers agree.
Onchain Access Control: Seal uses smart contracts written in Move to define flexible access control policies for decryption keys. These policies are enforced on the Sui blockchain, allowing developers to implement custom authorization scenarios.
Decentralized Gatekeeping: Seal employs off-chain key servers to validate access control policies and generate identity-based private keys for decryption. Users can select their preferred servers based on trust assumptions or regulatory requirements.
Seamless Integration: Seal is storage-agnostic and works with decentralized storage systems like Walrus, enabling secure data handling across various platforms.
