Ordinals is a protocol that enables the creation of inscriptions by writing content to satoshis, the smallest units of Bitcoin. As there are 2100 trillion satoshis in total, Ordinals allows for a vast amount of information to be stored on the Bitcoin blockchain without the need for a separate token, side chain, or altering Bitcoin itself. Inscriptions can include text, pictures, audio, video, and more. Due to the size limit of Bitcoin blocks, the primary form of inscriptions is through the creation of NFTs and tokens containing text and pictures.
