Neptune is a layer-1 blockchain protocol built for private, quantum-resistant digital cash and programmable smart contracts. The protocol uses zk-STARK zero-knowledge proofs combined with Mutator Sets to ensure all transactions execute with full confidentiality — no metadata leakage, no tracing. Post-quantum cryptography is embedded at the protocol level, designed to remain secure against future quantum computing threats. Smart contracts run on the Triton Virtual Machine, which supports private computation under the zk-proof framework.

The network uses proof-of-work consensus with a 5-minute block time and a controlled emission schedule starting at 6.8 coins per block, halving approximately every 3 years across 72 generations, with a tail emission of 1 coin per block and a hard cap of 42 million NPT.
