Grail is Bittensor Subnet 81 (SN81), developed by the Covenant AI team, dicedet to delivering cryptographically verifiable post-training for large language models (LLMs) through the GRAIL protocol -Guaranteed Rollout Authenticity via Inference Ledger. A central trainer component consumes only the validated, high-quality rollouts, runs asynchronous GRPO (a reinforcement learning method) to produce delta-checkpoints (reducing bandwidth by ~99% vs. full models), and publishes them to object storage like Cloudflare R2 for network-wide access. This creates a trustless, incentive-aligned loop: miners compete to produce the best rollouts, validators ensure cryptographic integrity and quality, and the model improves collectively without relying on centralized oversight. The subnet supports diverse, swappable task environments to evolve frontier capabilities, for example reasoning, coding, kernel optimization, with monitoring via public Weights &amp; Biases logs and a Grafana dashboard.
