Fountain Protocol is an algorithmic-based money market system designed to bring a complete decentralized finance-based lending and credit system onto Oasis Network. Fountain enables users to by utilizing their cryptocurrencies by supplying collateral to the network that may be borrowed by pledging over-collateralized cryptocurrencies. This creates a secure lending environment where the lender receives a compounded interest rate annually (APY) paid per block, while the borrower pays interest on the cryptocurrency borrowed. These interest rates are set by the protocol in a curve yield, where the rates are automated based on the demand of the specific market, such as Bitcoin.

The difference of Fountain from other money market protocols is the ability to use the collateral supplied to the market not only to borrow other assets but also to mint synthetic stablecoins with over-collateralized positions that protect the protocol. These synthetic stablecoins are not backed by a basket of fiat currencies but by a basket of cryptocurrencies. Fountain utilizes the Oasis Network for fast, low-cost transactions while accessing a deep network of wrapped tokens and liquidity.

FTP token is the native token of the Fountain Protocol and oversees the entire ecosystem of the Fountain Protocol including future iterations of the protocol. FTP is required to vote and decide on the outcome of proposals through Fountain Improvement Proposals. The protocol will initially be governed by the founding team, and will eventually transition to a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). As part of the DAO, holders of the FTP token will be able to initiate proposals and vote on issues that will steer the direction of the protocol.
