Following his appointment as the head of the newly planned presidential commission, Elon Musk has said that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be audited by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The billionaire head of the agency has confirmed the audit is “gonna happen” in a post to X (formerly Twitter).
Both Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were tasked with leading the department amid Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election win. Indeed, the incoming second Trump administration has placed an emphasis on cutting federal spending. Moreover, one of the world’s richest men is set to be a key factor in orchestrating those efforts.

Elon Musk Confirms IRS Will be Audited by DOGE
This month, the United States saw Donald Trump emerge victorious in a historic presidential election. Indeed, he is now set to start his second non-consecutive term as commander-in-chief with some rather radical ideas at the forefront. Chief among them is a plan to address the overspending epidemic of the country.
Now, the appointed head of that commission, Elon Musk, has confirmed that the IRS will be audited by the developing DOGE agency. The Tesla CEO took to his social media platform to note that the audit will be taking place. That is likely to be a key aspect of the group’s plan to slash federal spending by $2 trillion.

Both Musk and Ramaswamy have been outspoken about the task at hand. Earlier this week, the latter confirmed the commission will also target the country’s Defense Department budget. The entrepreneur said the agency has “nearly a trillion dollars of budget; they can’t even tell you where it goes.”
DOGE certainly isn’t going to stop there. The group has recently targeted the Department of Education, an agency that Trump has sought to dismantle in previous years. Indeed, Ramaswamy told Americans to expect “mass reductions,” with some agencies being “deleted outright.”
