Coinbase Stock Jumps 8% as Crypto Market Roars Back — Is $200 Breakout Next?

Share:

AI Overview

Coinbase stock (COIN) jumped 8.2% to $186.49 after Bitcoin ripped above $77,000 and Ether surged ~29.6% over seven days, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs taking in ~$606M and Ether ETFs $221M on Aug 20 for a combined $827M of institutional inflows that fueled the crypto rally. Coinbase reported $1.2B in Q2 2026 net revenue, including $555.1M from subscription and services, and said 88% of net revenue excluding Bitcoin spot trading is diversified, underscoring growing CEX product adoption beyond spot BTC trading. Technically COIN must clear a daily close above $200 to confirm a breakout toward $220 and $235-$240 while near-term supports sit at $180–$186 and $172–$173, making this development bullish for price and institutional adoption in the crypto market.

Coinbase stock is back in breakout territory. COIN price jumped 8.2% to $186.49 as Bitcoin (BTC) ripped above $77,000 and Ethereum extended its sharp rebound, putting the crypto exchange at the center of the latest market surge. With $200 now within striking distance, the next few sessions could determine whether this is a relief rally, or the start of Coinbase’s next major leg higher.

Bitcoin Rally and ETF Flows Provide the Immediate Catalyst

The broader market has supplied a powerful catalyst. Bitcoin gained roughly 21% this week, briefly reaching about $79,426, its highest level since May. Ethereum has also rallied, gaining roughly 29.6% over seven days.

Institutional demand has strengthened alongside the price move. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $606 million of net inflows on August 20, while Ether ETFs added another $221 million. That $827 million combined inflow came as crypto assets were already breaking higher, reinforcing the demand narrative behind the latest rally.

The macro backdrop has also turned more supportive. The latest Bitcoin rally followed the U.S. Treasury’s expanded bond-buyback announcement, which has been associated with improving liquidity expectations and a softer-dollar environment.

Armstrong Sees a New Crypto Bull Market Taking Shape

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has also turned more constructive on the market, saying crypto spot trading could be “on the cusp” of its next bull market. He pointed to the duration of previous bear phases and the potential impact of regulatory progress, particularly the upcoming CLARITY Act process.

That matters for COIN because the company is no longer as dependent on Bitcoin spot trading as it was in earlier cycles. Coinbase reported $1.2 billion in Q2 2026 net revenue, including $555.1 million from subscription and services revenue. The company said 88% of net revenue excluding Bitcoin spot trading reflected its broader revenue base.

COIN Price Analysis: $200 Is the Breakout Trigger

COIN price chart shows the rally breaking through a descending resistance trendline that had pressured Coinbase stock for months. Friday’s move was accompanied by a visible surge in volume, giving the breakout greater significance. COIN stock price closed at $186.49, with the session high at $191.36. The immediate resistance sits around $190–$196, where the stock approaches its longer-term moving-average resistance.

A daily close above $200 would confirm that buyers have not merely produced a sharp relief rally but have successfully reclaimed a major psychological and technical barrier. From there, the stock opens the next upside targets around $220, followed by the heavier $235–$240 supply zone. The bullish structure remains intact on a pullback as long as COIN holds the $180–$186 area. A deeper retracement toward $172–$173 would still represent a potential breakout retest. However, a loss of that zone would weaken the reversal setup and bring the $158–$162 major support cluster back into focus.

COIN’s Next Move Hinges on the $200 Breakout

COIN has moved from a prolonged downtrend into a genuine recovery setup, but the rally has not yet cleared its biggest technical obstacle. If Bitcoin maintains its momentum and COIN converts $196–$200 into support, the stock could enter a new leg toward $220 and potentially $235–$240. If buyers fail to clear $200, a consolidation or retest toward $180 would be the more immediate risk.
