Polygon Co-Founder Mihailo Bjelic Steps Down from Foundation and Labs

  • He is the third co-founder to leave the team after Jayanti Kanani and Anurag Arjun.
  • Bjelic was a significant leader in Polygon and has taken it to greater heights.

One of the co-founders of Polygon, Mihailo Bjelic, has stepped down from the blockchain project in which he was involved. He is resigning from the Polygon Foundation board and terminating his role at the main development Studio, Polygon Labs.

The co-founder posted on X, asserting that after a lot of thought and reflection, I have made up my mind to resign from the board of the Polygon Foundation and wrap up my day-to-day involvement with Polygon Labs.

If further added that “I will always be encouraging from the sidelines and backing, however and whenever I can.  I will remain as passionate as ever about crypto and will stay active around the industry. You will possibly still see me around.”

The other co-founder of Polygon, Sandeep Nailwal, highlighted the contribution of Bjelic and mentioned that he has always been a force behind a lot of what makes Polygon what it is today.

He is the third co-founder to leave the team after Jayanti Kanani and Anurag Arjun. Jayanti Kanani stepped down in October 2023, and Arjun left the company in March 2023 to focus on his modular blockchain project, popularly known as Avail. However, the reason behind stepping down of Bjelic is not clear yet.

The Significant Leader

Bjelic was a significant leader in Polygon and has taken it to greater heights. Working actively with Jayanti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, and Anurag Arjun, Bjelic co-founded the popular Ethereum Layer 2, also known as Matic Network, in 2017.

Ethereum Layer 2 is popularly known for its faster transaction times, lower fees, and better scalability. Being a layer 2 solution, Polygon leverages these features to enhance its own performance and the experience for its users.

This year, some major announcements were tied to Polygon. In March, DiGiShares announced it would bring tokenized real estate trading to Polygon with the introduction of RealEstate.Exchange.

In January, Jio Platforms collaborated with Polygon Labs to update some of its existing offerings with Web3 and blockchain capabilities.
