XRP Ledger Shows 200% Activity Spike, but Payment Volume Falls 89%

XRPL metrics are contradictory: transactions per ledger jumped 191.3% to 191.68 and one activity metric rose ~211% to ~498,200, but total transactions fell 42.7% to ~771,300, successful transactions dropped 31.3% to ~697,300, active accounts declined 73.1% to ~3,800 and payment volume plunged 89.2% to ~45.2 million XRP, indicating concentrated activity rather than broad on‑chain adoption. Off‑ledger, U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted $110.49 million in the week ending Aug. 28 with cumulative net inflows of about $1.66 billion and total net assets near $1.44 billion, and RLUSD activity rose 224% in 2026, signaling institutional demand and fundraising interest. Overall the news is mixed for crypto markets: strong ETF flows are bullish for token adoption and price potential while on‑chain indicators suggest caution.
XRP Ledger activity is flashing unusually large moves across several network indicators, but the latest data presents a far more complicated picture than a broad surge in adoption.
Transactions processed per ledger reportedly climbed 191.3% to 191.68, while another activity metric cited by U.Today rose 211% to roughly 498,200. At the same time, the number of payments increased about 5% to 540,700.
Those gains, however, came alongside steep declines elsewhere. Total transactions fell 42.7% to roughly 771,300, successful transactions declined 31.3% to about 697,300 and newly created accounts dropped 85.2% to 340. Active accounts were also reported down 73.1% to around 3,800.
Most importantly, total XRPL payment volume fell 89.2% to approximately 45.2 million XRP. That distinction matters because the roughly 103% volume increase highlighted alongside the network data refers to XRP market trading volume, rather than payment volume moving across the XRP Ledger.
XRP Ledger Data Shows Concentration Rather Than Broad GrowthTaken together, the figures suggest that activity is becoming more concentrated rather than every part of the XRP Ledger expanding simultaneously.
Transactions per ledger measure how much activity is being included in each closed ledger. A sharp increase can therefore coexist with declines in the overall number of transactions, accounts or value transferred.
That distinction is particularly important after a volatile August for XRPL activity. Earlier in the month, payment volume briefly exceeded 600 million XRP before dropping by roughly 90%, demonstrating how quickly individual network metrics can swing.
The latest figures should therefore not be interpreted as evidence that XRPL usage broadly increased by 200%.
There are nevertheless longer-term areas of ecosystem growth. Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has been gaining traction on XRPL, with its ledger activity previously increasing 224% during 2026, according to data highlighted by Evernorth. RLUSD growth on XRPL
XRP ETF Demand Adds a Separate Bullish SignalThe stronger financial-market signal may currently be coming from outside the ledger itself.
U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted $110.49 million during the week ending Aug. 28, their strongest weekly inflow of 2026. Cumulative net inflows reached roughly $1.66 billion, while total net assets stood near $1.44 billion. XRP ETF inflows
The flows followed a sharp August rally in which XRP gained 43.7% over seven days at one stage, outperforming other top-10 cryptocurrencies as Korean spot demand and ETF buying strengthened. XRP's August rally
XRP has since cooled toward the $1.35–$1.40 region. Technical attention remains centered on roughly $1.35, around the token's 200-day moving average, while $1.45–$1.50 represents the next important resistance area.

Rather than confirming a straightforward network-wide expansion, the latest XRPL numbers show why individual blockchain metrics need to be separated carefully. For XRP markets, defending the $1.35 area while ETF demand remains elevated may provide a clearer near-term signal than the headline percentage jumps alone.
