Apr 29: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington’s sanctions campaign now targets Iran’s access to crypto—alongside oil exports, shipping networks and shadow banking—marking the first explicit Treasury naming of digital assets in the Iran pressure campaign. This escalation places crypto and Bitcoin at the center of a geopolitical dispute, heightening regulatory and market risk (affecting DeFi, CEX/DEX flows and potential sanctions-evasion vectors) and has been moving Bitcoin’s price for weeks.
