Apple Exploring the Creation of Home Robots as “Next Big Thing.”

Tech giant Apple is exploring the creation of home robots, calling the potential development the “next big thing.” According to sources close to Apple, engineers at the company have been exploring a mobile robot that can follow users around their homes. Furthermore, the under-wraps project is also reportedly developing a tabletop device that uses robotics to move around.

Following the company scrapping its electric vehicle project, Apple appears to be looking actively for its next billion-dollar project. The iPhone creators are still in the beginning stages of this project, according to the sources, hence there is no true time table for the rollout of Apple home robots.

Besides the electric vehicle, Apple’s recent projects also include their Apple Vision Pro headset. The mixed-reality goggles are a huge innovation, however, have yet to be made massively available to the world. Furthermore, the hefty price tag means that it may take time for the world to get a hold of and get accustomed to the headset.

What Will The Apple Home Robot Do?

The tabletop robotics project first excited senior Apple executives a few years ago. However, this potential development could see excitement increase tenfold. Early ideas for a prototype included a display mimicking the head movements — such as nodding — of a person on a FaceTime session. It would also have features to precisely lock on to a single person in a crowd during a video call. The Apple Home Robot would likely have many more features to benefit home improvement/maintenance.

Earlier this year, Apple acquired DarwinAI, an artificial intelligence company based in Canada. The purchase of this company signaled a developing focus on AI technology in Apple’s future. Now that the company is reportedly working on developing home robots, DarwinAI may be a significant part of early prototypes. However, the project will likely be under heavy embargos for some time before being demoed for the public.
