Animoca Brands to Release Ghost in the Shell Movie NFTs

Ghost in the Shell will get the NFT treatment, with the Hong Kong-based gaming firm Animoca Brands set to launch a series of tokens based on the landmark 1995 movie adaptation.
Per the Japanese media outlet CoinPost, the firm will launch the tokens on the Ethereum blockchain network.
Ghost in the Shell NFTs to Use ERC-721 Standard
The move comes as Japan-linked firms take a fresh stab at bringing anime content into the world of crypto and blockchain.
The Ghost in the Shell NFTs will be the first Animoca release in its “AnimeTraits” NFT collection.
They will also be the first offerings to launch on the company’s SORAH by Animoca Brands Japan NFT trading platform.
The collection will feature characters that appear in the hit movie. The firm will release a total of 500 NFTs, and will sell each token for ETH 0.018.
The tokens will be built using the Ethereum protocol’s popular ERC-721 NFT standard.
The firm will also offer customization options for the owners of its Mocaverse offerings, as well as CoolCats and San FranTokyo owners.
Animoca announced a “strategic” CoolCats and San FranTokyo partnership in November 2023.
Web3 Move for Anime Titles
SORAH launched in June this year. Its first listings included the San FranTokyo profile picture collection. It also sold a series of NFT tie-ins featuring The Sandbox and the manga series Captain Tsubasa.
The media outlet wrote:
“The Ghost in the Shell NFT collection is likely to attract attention as a new attempt to spread the popularity of popular Japan anime titles in the web3 world.”
The firm added that it will “support” transactions on the Ethereum and Polygon blockchain networks, via the crypto wallets Metamask and WalletConnect.
Ghost in the Shell was a hit sci-fi movie based on a popular manga series that debuted in 1989.
It has since been adapted as a series of video games, as well as multiple anime series and live-action movies.
In 2017, it was adapted as a major Hollywood movie with Scarlett Johansson playing the lead role of Major Mira Killian (Motoko Kusanagi).
Earlier this month, the Japanese entertainment and gaming firm DMM – also the operator of a domestic crypto exchange – announced its plans to expand worldwide following an investment boost.
