While Warren Buffett and the likes have made life-changing wealth in the stock market, for the average person on the streets, buying lottery tickets and hoping to win is the only bet to make it big in life and attain all the riches. The downside of this is that the lottery never wins, breaking all hopes and expectations, and also losing money while at it.

So what does Warren Buffett think about buying lottery tickets? Does he buy them and hope to win despite being a billionaire? It wouldn’t cost him much to buy out all the series and increase his chances of winning. He’s been making money all his life, and this could also be a way for additional income.

However, he is not the ordinary person walking down the street. During an interview a few years ago, Warren Buffett was asked if he would consider buying lottery tickets. His answer surprised everyone as he quipped, “I’ll be happy to accept a lottery ticket as a gift, but I’ll never buy one.”

Warren Buffett thinks that spending and buying lottery tickets is a waste of money. His statement comes despite his having the ability to afford and hoard an entire series of tickets, making his chances of winning go much higher.

Many newcomers in the stock market also think of equities like lottery tickets. They aim to make quick money and exit the market being rich without any effort. This mindset often leads to risky bets and ends up being a costly mistake. Warren Buffett has advised investors not to see stocks as lottery tickets but as a long-term commitment that could transform finances.

“Your goal as an investor should simply be to purchase, at a rational price, a part interest in an easily-understandable business whose earnings are virtually certain to be materially higher five, 10, and 20 years from now,” the billionaire once said. In conclusion, Warren Buffett will accept lottery tickets if somebody gifts them to him, but will never spend a dime to buy them.
