A US appeals court's three-judge Second Circuit panel finalized and upheld Sam Bankman-Fried's criminal conviction related to the 2022 FTX collapse, leaving him with very limited legal options to overturn his prison sentence. The court confirmed guilt on seven felony charges and rejected defense claims that customer losses could be avoided by hypothetical asset holdings, finding misuse of customer funds itself constituted fraud, a ruling with clear implications for crypto regulation, customer protections and legal precedents.
The legal battle surrounding former FTX chief Sam Bankman-Fried reached another major milestone after a US appeals court finalized its decision to uphold his criminal conviction. The ruling reinforces the fraud case that followed the dramatic collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange in 2022. Consequently, the decision leaves Bankman-Fried with very limited legal options to challenge his prison sentence.
