USDC issuer Circle acquired assets from IBM’s blockchain patent portfolio, gaining more than 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents worldwide covering core blockchain technology, banking, financial services, insurance, enterprise infrastructure, supply chain verification and secure cloud operations. The acquisition strengthens Circle’s intellectual property in crypto infrastructure and security and could accelerate enterprise and DeFi adoption while protecting USDC-related services and improving competitive positioning in token issuance and blockchain-based financial products.
