Mirae Asset Outlines $109B Digital X Expansion After Korbit Deal

Mirae Asset plans to build Digital X (formerly Korbit, 97% stake acquired in July) into a 150 trillion won (~$109 billion) digital-asset business, announcing on August 27 a roadmap focused on crypto, stablecoins, real-world asset tokenization and security token offerings and targeting profitability by 2027. Leveraging Mirae’s ~ $1 trillion AUM and a year-long trading-fee waiver to drive adoption, the move could boost token launches, institutional integration and market competition but execution hinges on South Korea’s stablecoin, custody and exchange rules.
Mirae Asset Financial Group has outlined a plan to build Digital X, formerly the Korbit exchange, into a 150 trillion won digital-asset business, equivalent to approximately $109 billion. Chairman and founder Park Hyeon-joo presented the strategy to employees on August 27 and set a target for the unit to become profitable by 2027.
Digital X will span four business areas
Park identified cryptocurrency, stablecoins, real-world assets and security token offerings as the unit’s main areas of focus. Mirae also plans to explore tokenization of physical assets, including precious metals and electricity, while connecting the products to a broader onchain-finance ecosystem.
The roadmap follows Mirae’s acquisition of a 97% stake in Korbit in July and the exchange’s subsequent rebranding as Digital X. One of the platform’s first competitive moves was a year-long trading-fee waiver, a strategy examined in our report on Digital X’s challenge to Upbit.
Mirae is linking crypto with traditional finance
Mirae manages about $1 trillion in assets and intends to use its existing financial-services network to support the digital platform. The company previously described Digital X as an intelligent investment platform connecting research, traditional assets and blockchain-based products.
The strategy reflects a wider push by South Korean financial groups to build regulated digital-asset infrastructure. Shinhan Financial Group, for example, is working with Visa to test stablecoin issuance and settlement systems.
The target remains an ambition, not current scale
The 150 trillion won figure is a long-term business objective rather than Digital X’s present asset base or revenue. Mirae has not provided a detailed timetable for reaching that scale, nor has it disclosed which tokenized products will launch first.
Execution will also depend on South Korea’s developing rules for stablecoins, exchanges and crypto-linked investment products. The country has a large verified crypto-user base, but product approvals and custody requirements will determine how quickly Mirae can connect Digital X with its conventional financial operations. Competition from established domestic exchanges will add another constraint, particularly while Digital X is spending on customer acquisition and new infrastructure before reaching profitability. Mirae has not published revenue or user targets for the intervening period.
