U.S. Will Not Fund Ukraine for its War With Russia: Ramaswamy

During the Republican Party’s initial presidential primary debate, Vivek Ramaswamy said that he would not support an increase in funding for Ukraine’s war against Russia. He added,

“I think this is disastrous that we are protecting against an invasion across somebody else’s border when we should use those same military resources to prevent across the invasion of our own southern border here in the United States.”

The presidential candidate further added that Russia and China are the single greatest threats that the U.S. faces. According to Ramaswamy, not putting the interests of Americans first is “offensive”. The youngest Presidential candidate from the Republican Party added that the resources going to Kyiv should be used domestically instead. Referring to other candidates who had visited Ukraine, Ramaswamy contended that they would not have done the same for the residents of “Maui, the southside of Chicago, or Kensington.”

The former governor of New Jersey who traveled to Ukraine, Chris Christie, did not agree with Ramaswamy’s claims. He said that he wanted to see “what Vladimir Putin’s army was doing to the free Ukrainian people”. Christie pointed out that Donald Trump once called Vladimir Putin “brilliant and a genius.” However, if the U.S. does not stand up against this type of autocratic killing in the world, “we will be next,” he said.

Ramaswamy has time and again underlined that to put America first, America needs to be rediscovered. Ultimately, this is the key reason why he is running for president. In a recent WSJ editorial, he wrote that he is not only launching a political campaign but a cultural movement. This would give birth to a new American Dream that will be about the “unapologetic pursuit of excellence.”
