Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson Compares Ethereum Questions to Reliving Trauma

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson pushed back in a recent interview after being asked roughly 400 times to recount his six-month role in Ethereum’s founding about twelve years ago, calling the repetition lazy and likening it to badgering someone about past trauma. He urged reporters to focus on current crypto substance and adoption, pointing to Cardano’s rise into a roughly $100 billion network and the technical work he’s led rather than revisiting historical disputes.
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson lost his patience during a recent interview with The Block, pushing back after a reporter asked him to revisit the story behind Ethereum’s founding.
“Shame on You for Asking It”
The reporter had framed the question carefully, asking Hoskinson to walk through the origin story of Ethereum’s founding in his own words. Hoskinson didn’t let the question land. “Shame on you for asking it,” he said. “Do some basic research.”
Hoskinson has now answered the same Ethereum question roughly 400 times already, he said, expressing frustration at being asked to relitigate a six-month chapter of his career from more than a decade ago. “You worked at a place 12 years ago for six months, and books have been written about it,” he said, describing the repeated line of questioning as lazy given how thoroughly documented the period already is.
A Comparison to Trauma
Hoskinson framed the repetition in personal terms. He compared repeated questions about his past to badgering someone after trauma, arguing that if someone has processed a difficult experience and moved past discussing it, continuing to press them on the same details years later isn’t appropriate. “I’m so tired of talking about Ethereum,” he said.
Pointing to What He’s Built Since
Rather than revisit the details of Ethereum’s founding, including well-documented episodes involving a house in Miami and a meeting in Switzerland, Hoskinson pointed reporters toward what he has spent the years since building. Hoskinson pointed instead to Cardano’s rise to a hundred billion dollar network, framing that growth as more relevant than rehashing his brief tenure at Ethereum.
Hoskinson worked at Ethereum for roughly six months, about twelve years ago now, before departing and later founding Cardano. He argued that continually returning to that short stretch of his career, rather than the technical work he has done since, offers little insight for readers or viewers at this point.
