Ethereum Price And Scalability Records Mismatch, Here Is What Can Tilt The Balance

Ethereum Price And Scalability Records Mismatch, Here Is What Can Tilt The Balance

AI Overview

Ethereum trades below $2,000 (around $1,980) despite rapidly rising network activity: rollups process ~1,270 user operations per second versus mainnet 20.4, applications generated $1.79 billion in fees while the base layer captured just 4.9% and Q2 Real Economic Value was $88.4 million. Lower fees have cut ETH burns (blob fees ~0.22 ETH in the past week) even as supply metrics show 121.88 million total ETH with 41.10 million staked, staking yield ~2.6% and annual supply growth ~0.85%; analysts point to $17.2 billion in tokenized real‑world assets and a $299.4 billion stablecoin market as potential institutional demand drivers, but short‑term technicals (TD Sequential sell) and the migration to layer‑2s make the near‑term outlook mixed.

Key Insights:

  • Ethereum (ETH) price stays below $2,000 even as network activity reaches new highs across layer-2 networks.
  • Ethereum applications generated $1.79 billion in fees, but the base layer captured only 4.9% of that value.
  • Analysts are watching tokenized assets and institutional demand as possible drivers for future ETH price growth.

Ethereum price remains under the spotlight as the network continues to process more activity while the coin stays below the $2,000 level. Fresh data has renewed debate over whether Ethereum’s growing use is doing enough to support the ETH price, even as more projects and users continue to build on the network.

Meanwhile, any price projections or technical levels referenced in this article are based on chart patterns and market indicators, which cannot accurately predict future price movements.

Ethereum Price Lags Behind Network Growth

Ethereum price has not matched the pace of growth across the network. That is the concern raised by market commentator Tanaka on X, who said Ethereum is scaling faster than ever, but the coin is still trading below $2,000.

Figures shared for the second quarter show Ethereum’s base layer generated $88.4 million in Real Economic Value, The DeFi Report showed. That was 7% higher than the previous quarter but still 68% lower than the same period last year.

At the same time, applications running on Ethereum generated about $1.79 billion in fees. The network is handling more activity, but only a small share of that value is flowing back to the main chain.

The numbers show Ethereum’s base layer captured only about 4.9% of the value created by applications during the quarter. For many investors, this is now one of the biggest questions around the Ethereum (ETH) price.

Recent activity also shows how much the network has changed. Rollups are processing about 1,270 user operations per second, while Ethereum’s main network is processing about 20.4. That means rollups are handling more than 40 times the activity of the base layer.

Robinhood Chain is also seeing strong activity. It is processing about 96.2 user operations per second, almost five times the level recorded on Ethereum Mainnet.

These figures show Ethereum can support much more activity than before. Still, many holders want to know if that growth will eventually increase demand for ETH or if most of the value will remain outside the base layer.

Lower ETH Fees Have Changed The Story

Ethereum’s move toward cheaper transactions has helped rollups grow quickly. It has also made the network easier to use. The downside is that lower fees have reduced the amount of ETH being burned.

Current figures put the total ETH supply at about 121.88 million coins. Around 41.10 million ETH is locked in the Beacon Chain, meaning about one-third of the total supply is securing the network.

The current staking yield is around 2.6%, while annual supply growth is close to 0.85%. During the past seven days, blob fees burned only about 0.22 ETH.

Tanaka said this does not mean Ethereum price and network are failing. Instead, the network is going through a period where cheaper transactions have reduced income on the base layer while helping the wider ecosystem grow.

In the past, many investors believed more users would always lead to higher gas fees and more ETH being burned. That idea is now being tested as more activity moves to layer-2 networks.

Real-World Assets Could Help Ethereum Price

As of July 28, Ethereum was home to about $17.2 billion in tokenized real-world assets. The stablecoin market, which also has a strong presence on Ethereum, was valued at about $299.4 billion.

Analyst Tanaka believes these areas could create stronger demand for ETH over time if more institutions use Ethereum for settlement, collateral, and reserve holdings.

For now, he is watching whether demand for layer-2 services increases the value of blob space, whether stablecoins and tokenized assets are used regularly instead of sitting idle, and whether institutions continue adding ETH to their balance sheets.

Another market analyst, Ali Martinez, said the TD Sequential indicator recently flashed a sell signal after correctly calling a buy near $1,500 before a 31.5% rally. With ETH price trading around $1,980, the analyst said some traders could decide to take profits.

Cryptollica, however, believes the current chart still looks similar to the pattern seen before Ethereum’s previous major rally in 2018 and 2020. The analyst said history could be repeating itself, leaving many investors watching closely to see whether the Ethereum (ETH) price can finally catch up with the network’s steady growth.
