Nvidia has rolled out its new tagline for the GeForce RTX graphics cards, which now features the phrase ‘Powering Advanced AI.’ This change, witnessed quietly in the updates of the OEM partners like PNY, indicates Nvidia’s increased focus on artificial intelligence as a key feature of its consumer GPU lineup.

It is anticipated that the new branding will be soon in use on more physical items such as GPU boxes and laptop badges.

The addition of this AI-centered tagline, which was traditionally marketed specifically to gamers, marks a change in the company’s strategy for its GeForce RTX series.

By using AI in the branding strategy, the company appears to be extending its GPUs beyond gaming to include professional and aspiring AI application developers. The company’s latest graphics cards, including the budget-friendly RTX 4050 Mobile, already feature 120 tensor cores optimized for machine learning and other more productive purposes.

Nvidia shifts GeForce RTX focus toward AI enthusiasts

This change in its brand strategy suggests clearly that the company is targeting more users, especially those in AI and machine learning. Such a shift comes as Nvidia maintains the lead in the AI hardware market, but the challenge of brand expansion still exists.

Although the company remains a technology giant, Nvidia was not included in Interbrand’s latest ranking of the 100  most recognizable global brands. The introduction of an AI-centered tagline would possibly be a strategy to improve brand awareness by stressing Nvidia’s AI capabilities within its consumer product line.

The AI features incorporated in GeForce RTX cards, like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and AI-written NPC dialogue, have already been well-established in improving the gaming experience. However, the inclination of Nvidia to emphasize these capabilities in its branding suggests that there are more things GeForce RTX would be used for besides games. This is quite a shift from previous Nvidia practices, where AI-based products were integrated into a high range of professional GPUs and accelerators.

The rebranding change also relates to previous supply issues that the company experienced, particularly the shortage that was created when the cryptocurrency boom occurred and miners bought large stocks of GPUs.  Nvidia seems to be reassuring that it has enough supply for different types of clients, by emphasizing the AI aspect of its GeForce RTX series.
