Kenya’s Nairobi Securities Exchange plans East Africa’s first AI-focused ETF targeting a launch by the end of 2026, tracking companies with direct AI exposure such as Microsoft, Anthropic and OpenAI and denominated in Kenyan shillings to keep capital local and reduce currency risk. The NSE will monitor AI valuations and may adjust timing if risks rise, but the ETF should boost tech adoption and retail access in Kenya and could attract interest from crypto and digital assets investors despite valuation concerns.
Kenya’s Nairobi Securities Exchange is developing East Africa’s first artificial intelligence focused ETF, targeting investors seeking access to technology companies. The market plans to offer the product before the end of 2026, expanding options for younger investors.
The exchange’s CEO Frank Mwiti said the fund would track companies with direct AI exposure. He noted global firms like Microsoft, Anthropic, and OpenAI could guide the ETF’s structure.
Besides, the NSE wants to keep investment opportunities inside Kenya, as many investors seek technology products. Additionally, the exchange plans to use the Kenyan shilling to reduce currency concerns.
However, Mwiti said the NSE would monitor AI market conditions carefully because some investors fear excessive valuations. Consequently, the exchange could adjust its timeline if risks increase.
