Ethereum News: Vitalik Buterin Reveals Ethereum’s New Roadmap

Share:
Vitalik Buterin unveiled an updated Ethereum Strawmap that reprioritizes stronger privacy, post-quantum safety, formal verification and new execution paths including native rollups, zkzk frames and potential leanISA/RISC-V instruction sets to improve scaling and security. ETH traded down 2.69% to $1,869.09 amid renewed selling while market cap reached $225.56 billion (+3.97%) and 24h volume rose to $8.99 billion (+126.34%), reflecting short-term pressure despite protocol upgrades that could support long-term adoption in crypto, DeFi and DEX ecosystems.

Ethereum news took a new turn after Vitalik Buterin revealed how Ethereum’s current Strawmap differs from its 2023 roadmap. Buterin updated the earlier diagram to show where previous priorities now fit within the newer plan.
The comparison shows several areas that remain aligned, alongside changes in development priorities. Some features moved higher, while others received less attention or were replaced. The updated roadmap also introduces several concepts that did not appear in Ethereum’s 2023 plans.
These additions include stronger privacy, post-quantum scaling, formal verification, and new approaches to Ethereum’s execution environment.

Ethereum News: Privacy and Quantum Safety Gain Focus
Vitalik Buterin said quantum safety has moved higher on the development priority list. He also highlighted first-class attention to stronger privacy across the updated roadmap.
The privacy work includes keyed nonces, recent roots, and aspects of FOCIL. It also includes lean privacy pools and wormholes.

The updated roadmap in Ethereum news also places greater emphasis on scaling under post-quantum conditions. Proposed work includes leanSPHINCS signatures, signature aggregation, and zkzk frames. Buterin referenced an Ethereum Magicians proposal concerning zkzk frames and post-quantum signatures.
At the same time, some earlier priorities have been reduced. Buterin cited VDFs and several EVM improvements as examples. Other concepts have also changed through new technical constructions.
Vitalik Buterin Highlights New Ethereum Design Paths
Buterin said Verkle trees in connection to Ethereum news moved toward unified binary trees and then PBT. State expiry also shifted toward new state types. He described new state types as a fundamentally different approach to Ethereum scaling.
The updated plan also includes blob and gas futures, which Buterin said did not exist in the 2023 roadmap. Native rollups now appear as another major addition. He noted that SNARK technology had not reached sufficient maturity in 2023 for this approach.
The roadmap also considers a broader future for Ethereum’s execution environment. zkzk frames could expose another instruction set architecture beyond the EVM. Buterin identified leanISA and RISC-V as current leading candidates.
He said these architectures could provide simpler and more efficient alternatives to the EVM. The deeper exploration remains too early for the current Strawmap, according to Buterin.
ETH Price Falls as Updated Roadmap Emerges
Ethereum news also coincided with renewed selling pressure in ETH. At the time of writing, ETH traded at $1,869.09, marking a 2.69% decline over 24 hours.

Despite ETH price declines, the token recorded a market capitalization of $225.56 billion, an increase of 3.97% over the previous day. Its 24-hour trading volume reached $8.99 billion, representing a 126.34% increase.
The intraday chart showed ETH trading around $1,920. Selling later picked up as the price moved below $1,900. ETH then declined toward $1,870, with the move occurring near 6:00 PM.
