Cardano Hydra’s potential for 1 million TPS overhyped, says technical director

Cardano Hydra’s potential for 1 million TPS overhyped, says technical director

As the Cardano (ADA) community rejoices with the arrival of the revolutionary L2 Hydra on the main net, a seasoned developer has stepped forward to provide valuable insights on the technology’s bandwidth and performance capabilities.

Matthias Benkort, the Technical Director of the Cardano Foundation, has advised against spreading the narrative that Hydra, the second-layer scaler for Cardano’s Proof-of-Stake (PoS) network, is capable of processing one million transactions per second.

He stated that this claim is not accurate. While Hydra can potentially increase the network’s transaction throughput, it cannot yet process a million transactions per second (TPS).

Benkort, also known as KtorZ, and Marco Meerman, a Cardano community enthusiast, and ADA staking pool operator. Meerman shared his thoughts on Hydra, a layer-2 scaling solution developed by Input Output Global, the Cardano Foundation, and the Hydra team.

Meerman had suggested that Hydra’s performance statistics were impressive, but that the platform’s goal should be to reach a bandwidth of 2 million transactions per second (TPS).

However, Benkort responded that this narrative was “misleading” and that people should only refer to the statistics published by Input Output Global, the Cardano Foundation, or the Hydra team.

Despite Benkort’s recommendation, some Cardano enthusiasts disagreed and argued that 2 million TPS should be the endgame goal of Hydra’s progress. There are different opinions on what Hydra’s potential could be. Still, one thing is sure: the Cardano community is passionate and engaged and will continue to drive the platform forward.
