The value of rETH distributed to stakers is calculated with the following ratio: rETH:ETH ratio = (total ETH staked + Beacon Chain rewards) / (total ETH staked). Staking rewards will automatically begin accumulating as soon as rETH is held. Rewards are determined by the total amount staked by the user, as well as the overall performance of the Rocket Pool protocol. 

rETH can be traded on the Rocket Pool platform in return for ETH plus the value of any rewards accrued. It is worth noting that simply holding the rETH token in a compatible wallet effectively gives the holder staker status and rewards will be accumulated automatically. Participants can use their collateral to capitalize on the DeFi opportunities available to ETH holders.

Thanks to the protocol’s architecture, rETH value will increase over time. This is due to the fact that it is protected from node slashing and downtime by Rocket Pool’s insurance mechanisms. For example, node operators must stake RPL on their nodes which serve as collateral for any potential penalties incurred, thus incentivizing proper behavior.
